IIBA: Creating Business Opportunities
Kindly hosted by Eir Business, IIBA’s activities for 2018 got off to a flying start at our Business Opportunities Event on Wednesday, 17th January. A breakfast meeting, the event was open to anyone with an interest in the Ireland-India business relationship.
Bill Archer, Managing Director of Eir Business, welcomed the large group to Eir’s offices at HSQ, noting the importance of the Ireland-India relationship and the benefit of engaging with organisations such as IIBA. With the focus being on creating business opportunities between Ireland and India, HE Ambassador Vijay Thakur Singh, Ambassador for India, spoke to the group about the current opportunities available in India and how these might be attractive to Irish companies.
Tech Mahindra’s Bhushan Patil (Senior VP / Head of Business, UK Ireland & Southern Europe), presented how his company has developed since arriving in Ireland, growing to a workforce of over 500 employees, with plans to double this in the coming years. He also spoke about the Tech M Centre of Excellences, further evidence of their commitment to Ireland
Brown Thomas General Manager Martina Riches discussed how her stores are adapting to welcome more Indian customers visiting Ireland. Staff development has played a key role in Brown Thomas’ offering to international visitors, with staff receiving cultural training and participating in the Failte Ireland Dublin Champions programme. Brown Thomas now offers services in store through 16 different languages.
Following the plenary session, the IIBA Sectorial Working Groups (Aviation and Aerospace, ICT, Agri-Business, and Education) met. These groups allow IIBA members to have a more sectorial focused discussion on how business opportunities between Ireland and India, can be created and developed.
Overall, this was a very energised and insightful morning, leaving IIBA members and guests with a renewed ambition to further explore the potential of the Ireland-India business relationship.
Thank you to Eir business for hosting the event, and to all those who were able to attend.
